4.9.3 Staff and budget
Staff
-
The chief of staff leads the Office of the Mayor.
-
The chief executive manages general employment and administrative matters in relation to the chief of staff; the chief executive should also bring significant issues to the mayor’s attention.
-
The Office of the Mayor may include political appointments and general staff. These staff members are council employees or contractors and are subject to council employment policies.
Budget
-
The governing body allocates the office a budget in each annual plan or long-term plan; this cannot be less than 0.2% of the council’s total budgeted operating expenditure for the year [1]. The office must be established within this budget, including staff, contractors and administration.
-
The mayor and the office may use this budget to support the mayoral role and may retain funds for specific projects.
